Voltarol Back & Muscle Pain Gel is a topical gel used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation in the back, neck, muscles, and joints. It is also effective for treating sprains, strains, bruises, and minor sports injuries to tendons and ligaments.

How It Works

The active ingredient, diclofenac diethylammonium, is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). When applied to the skin, it is absorbed into the tissue beneath, where it blocks the production of prostaglandins — chemicals in the body that cause pain, swelling, and inflammation. This provides targeted relief directly at the source of the pain, without affecting the rest of your body in the same way that oral painkillers do.

Directions for Use

Voltarol Back & Muscle Pain Gel is suitable for adults and adolescents aged 14 years and over. Apply a small amount of gel (roughly 2–4 g, equivalent to a cherry- to walnut-sized amount) to the affected area and gently rub in 3 to 4 times daily. Wash your hands after use and avoid applying to broken, irritated, or infected skin. Do not use for more than 7 days without speaking to a doctor. Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, Voltarol Back & Muscle Pain Gel can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Common side effects include:
• Skin redness, itching, or a rash at the application site
• Dry or flaky skin where the gel has been applied
• A burning or stinging sensation on the skin
• Skin swelling at the site of application

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

Do not use Voltarol Back & Muscle Pain Gel if you:
• Are allergic to diclofenac, aspirin, ibuprofen, or any other NSAID
• Have ever had an allergic reaction such as asthma, hives, or a runny nose after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
• Are in the last 3 months (third trimester) of pregnancy
• Are under 14 years of age
• Have open wounds, broken skin, or skin infections in the area to be treated

Interactions

When used as a topical gel, the risk of interactions with other medicines is low compared to oral diclofenac. However, caution should be taken if you are also using other topical preparations on the same area of skin. If you are taking oral NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen or aspirin), anticoagulants (blood thinners), or other prescription medicines, let your doctor or pharmacist know before using this gel. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Voltarol Back & Muscle Pain Gel should not be used during the third trimester of pregnancy, as NSAIDs may harm the unborn baby. Use during the first and second trimester should be avoided unless clearly necessary and only under medical supervision. It is not recommended for use while breastfeeding, as diclofenac may pass into breast milk in small amounts. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

Alcohol

There is no known interaction between Voltarol Back & Muscle Pain Gel and alcohol when used topically as directed. However, if you are also taking oral anti-inflammatory medicines or painkillers, consult your PillSorted pharmacist regarding alcohol use alongside those medicines.

Driving and Operating Machinery

Voltarol Back & Muscle Pain Gel is applied to the skin and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you notice any unexpected side effects that affect your alertness or coordination, do not drive and seek advice from your PillSorted pharmacist.

Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not freeze. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
